LOOE
, Cornwall
2004 and on the way to and
only about 4 miles from the Holiday Destination:
Seaview
Holiday Village,
Polperro,
you pass through the Picture-postcard,
Looe. It
is flanked on the sides by high tiers of tiny
colourful cottages into the sky like dolls
houses. Another picture is drawn through the eye
of a photo from the Seven-Span
Victorian
Bridge either side to see
multi-coloured boats anchored for a rest. You
will also get a totally different picture when
the tide goes out, as the river-bed is dry on
both sides of the bridge and all the boats perch
precariously as if they have been clamped and
forbidden to ride the wave, I could not help but
feel a little solace for these abandoned mini
sea cruisers!
There is a myriad
of little shops
and buildings here and parking
at its entrance is very much restricted,
however, if you go to the other side of the
bridge, there is an enormous Car Park
at the Scenic
Millpool;
that only adds an extra 5 minutes to the walk to
the main shops. There is an adequate sized
Amusement Arcade at the car park
entrance; that has a quite compact but full
array of entertainments.
Passing by the
Railway Station,
all the shops and Fish Market;
that fork into two half way down in the main
shopping area, everything is catered for, from
memorabilia to music; from arcade to artefacts;
from snack foods to full feasting; from fudge to
fish; from Scrumpy to sandals; from supermarkets
to super-surfers… At the shop’s end is the sea
where the Lifeboat House
and small Banjo Pier
are stationed.
There is a wide area of sandy beach
here where it is popular for bathers and an
impressive concrete sea defence wall that
doubles up as resting spots for when you are
walking around. There is a Promenade
Café that
serves snacks and at times you can get
Fish & Chips
to complete the seaside tradition. On this
promenade is a large Lavatory
facility; which is well placed and very clean.
There is another Lavatory in the middle of the
shopping area should you need it. Turning back
from the Pier
and following the River edge, you will find a
stand for Boat Trips
that can be taken around the Harbour.
During this stay
in Cornwall,
we returned to Looe
several times … It would be great if we could
return to experience the Torchlight
Parades that
the locals are proud of all along the Cornwall
Coast at Christmas,
it must be an awesome sight. There is also the
Waterfall we did not get around to seeing, just
along the way at Portnadler Bay.
