Making Great Strides.

Having a great fiscal year 2005 and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is anticipating record growth in revenues. We are grateful to our many generous donors who have supported our mission and contributed to this success.

The growth in revenue is good news to all blood cancer patients and their families. It means the Society will continue our investment in exceptional research programs that are producing results.

Many of you are aware of the Society's role in the discovery of the breakthrough drug Gleevec^®, the molecularly targeted therapy that has saved the lives of so many patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). More recently, Charles Sawyers, M.D., from UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center, and a member of one of the Society's Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) programs, has discovered a second drug, now in clinical trials, that is bringing new hope to the approximately 20 percent of CML patients who are resistant to Gleevec .

In fiscal year 2006, we are also planning on adding a number of new SCOR grants. These large-scale, multi-disciplinary and collaborative projects have already yielded significant results and represent a source of hope for blood cancer patients everywhere.
