For an adventure to Jersey in February 1999 and my first jaunt across to the Channel Islands, I checked the papers to see a special package, so checked it out and found that there was a vacancy for 3 nights stay at St. Hellier, but as it was such a good deal, I extended it to 4 nights. This was a last minute decision and so was pleased with  the smooth booking process.

To get to Jersey, I had to drive down to Weymouth and report into the "Condor" Ferry Terminal. I had not been on a Sea Ferry before. Although I had seen them in the distance, I was amazed with the sheer size of the vessel, I still find it incredible as a Plane can fly, that such a huge craft could float! Anyway, boarding was quite quick  and then it wasn't long before I was settled in the Lounge and making headway  for about 4 & half hours via a stop off at Guernsey, the time seemed to go by quite pleasantly.

Docking at St. Hellier, after being spotted out by Customs for a luggage check, it was a short coach trip to the Hotel and was most relaxing to locate the fitness area below which included a generous sized heated pool, Jacuzzi & Sauna. This, I made daily use of and was most invigorating.

Most days I took the 10 minute walk down town and enjoyed looking around the diverse selection shops and then down to the seafront area. Using the local currency was slightly curious to use a £1 note again after such a long time but I was familiar with some of the coins as they seem to circulate in your change sometimes when you shop in the UK! However, it was important that I check out the history and geography of the Island, so booked a coach tour. Jersey is only a few miles long, so it didn't take much time to get from one end to the other and meant that the stop-off points were generous and I did not feel I had to rush back to be dragged off to another stop. As it was February, some of the normal tour routes etc were not available as it was out of season for the facilities, but, winding gently around the extremely narrow lanes, passing glorious scenery, was still an experience in awe.

The stops included were for the Museum, Local Crafts & Fortress locations, all of which I would love to return for a second tour and hope to so I may update this page with more information.

Time to pack up and return to UK, I reluctantly ventured back to the Ferry via Coach and was whisked away with the tide back via Guernsey and on to Weymouth. On this journey, I spent a lot of time up on top deck, taking in the sea air and the million miles an hour breeze and spray produced by the vessel. Receiving a severe pummelling from the airborne  Jacuzzi, I settled back to the lounge for a drink before needing to prepare for the trail down to the exits... Well, blow me down with a feather, (or something!) I could not believe that I was stopped at Customs again for luggage search but this time at Weymouth. I was not sure whether I had a dodgy sign printed on my face, but maybe it was as I was travelling alone, they thought me suspect? (After all, why would I want to go anywhere alone, I must be suspect!!!) All said and done, they were only doing their job (at both ends) so I suppose it shows that they have to be respected for that, they were very polite. With the evening pulling in fast, it was now time for me to find my car and take the long drive back home.

Overall, the experience of this adventure, was an adventurous experience!
