M-Web Support: The subject of child abuse has for many years had a very low profile in Zimbabwe, but recent times have seen much publicity being given to the issue, especially where rape of minors is concerned. There has been a considerable change in the public's acceptance that child abuse does occur, and concern that children's rights are not realised and their voice not heard.

Nationally and locally the present situation in Zimbabwe is one of profound economic and social difficulty. Since mid 1998, the local currency has dropped against the US dollar by over 100%, inflation has passed the 50% figure and there is massive unemployment. These factors have exacerbated the poor social conditions in which the majority of the population find themselves. We believe that in this climate there is an increasing need for ChildLine’s services.
